Frequently asked questions

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is a service that stores your website files on a server connected to the internet, so visitors can open your site at any time.

What is the difference between a domain and hosting?

A domain is your site address, like example.com. Hosting is the server space where the site lives. You need both, and they can be bought from different companies.

What is reseller hosting?

Reseller hosting lets you rent a pool of server resources and sell it to your own customers as hosting plans under your brand. The provider runs the servers.

Shared hosting or VPS: which should I choose?

Start with shared hosting for a blog, portfolio or small business site. Move to a VPS when you need guaranteed resources, custom software or you see slowdowns at busy hours.

Do I need an SSL certificate?

Yes. HTTPS protects visitors, avoids browser warnings and is a small search ranking signal. Free certificates are enough for most sites.

How do I move my website to a new host?

Back up everything, copy the site to the new host, test it, then change DNS last. Keep the old hosting active for a few days. Our migration checklist has the full steps.

How long does a DNS change take?

Often minutes, sometimes up to a day or two. The time depends on the TTL value of the old records, so lower it before a planned change.

How often should I back up my site?

Daily for sites that change often, weekly for static ones. Keep at least one copy away from the hosting server.

Can I host more than one website on one account?

That depends on the plan. Check the number of websites or domains the plan allows before ordering.

Where do I buy hosting from Hosstec?

In the Hosstec store. The plan pages list what each plan includes.
